Dolphins retreat in Marsa Alam route overview

Departure / Return : Hamata, Egypt

Hamata

Sattaya reef

Marsa Alam

Detailed route

  • Meeting point : Hamata, Egypt

Hamata islands

The 4 islands off Hamata are surrounded by crystal clear water and pristine coral reefs and makes a perfect stop on our first and last day on this trip. The area is extremely rich in terms of biodiversity, bird migrations, marine life and healthy coral formations. Daily dolphin encounters as well as tropical islands and shallow wrecks make it perfect to explore and be amazed by the area. Numerous comfortable moorings thanks to the sheltered lagoons.

Sattayah reef

Sattayah reef will be the highlight of your trip. Around three hours away sailing from the port, you will find yourself inside a 6km-wide lagoon protected by one of the red sea’s largest reefs. Within this huge lagoon, you will have some of the best chances to meet wild dolphins. Multiple pods of spinner dolphins take Sattayah reef as their home, the pods together gathering over a 100 individuals.

Abu Galawa reef

A huge reef system very rich in corals and marine life. The main attraction of Abu Galawa Kebir is a chinese wreck named Tien Hsing and laying at a depth ranging from 3 to 18 meters, making it a perfect spot to explore for snorkellers and freedivers. The wreck is home of marine life as well as overgrown healthy corals. Do not forget to look into the blue time to time and spot a few dolphins passing by.

Malahy reef

Malahy (which means the playground) is one of the most visited and famous reefs of the area. This is an explorer’s dream. The reef formation is like a playground of craggy corals, canyons and labyrinthine caves all waiting to be discovered. One of the most prolific dive sites in the Red Sea and that should not be missed.

claudia reef dolphins retreat

Claudia reef

Claudia reef counts as one of the most beautiful dive sites in the area, due to a marvelous caves and canyon system running through the south part of the reef. The canyon, made of two chambers and a maximum depth of 14m makes it perfect for practicing freediving, including the small channels and swim-throughs. With the sunlight entering the cave from atop, it creates a magical atmosphere. A paradise for photographers !

Reviews

The sailing cruise in Egypt was simply magical. We were aboard with an incredible crew providing top-notch service. The food was great and overall, I had an amazing time. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to disconnect with like-minded people.

Excellent from every point of view: the dolphin dives, the fun dives to isolated reefs, the freediving experience with the guidance and coaching of Nicolas, life on board the yacht, the quality and variety of the cuisine, the comfort; the staff were very attentive and the captain took initiatives to optimise our dives. It was perfect!

Thanh N – April 14, 2024

It was an incredible trip and in addition to all the unreal beauty and a huge number of dolphins, I want to say a huge thank you to the crew who organized this trip for us. Without these people the trip would not have been what it turned out to be. The crew of the yacht was very cool, we ate deliciously, the cabins were clean, the beauties of the sea were shown with love 🙂 In addition to all the beauties, as a freediver I received an unrealistically large amount of new information and enough practice. I dove to my deepest depth and in home workouts, the pool seems easy to me. Nicolas is an excellent instructor, and I hope to learn more from him in the future 🙂 Yoga at the end of the day under the most beautiful sunsets was a great end to the day and a treat for tired muscles.
It was one of the brightest and most memorable trips of my life.

One of these experiences that will get stuck in your mind forever.
Way better than expected. More fun than what I hoped for. Diving with marine life felt like heaven. Nicolas and his crew were more than helpful and supporting in everything we needed. Training with him was super nice, he can spot your weakness in seconds, and with few adjustments he can provide progress! Sailing, free diving sessions, fun dives with dolphins, reef sharks & sting rays around reefs abundant with marine life and corals, presentations & endless talks about the ocean and the marine life, relaxing friendly atmosphere in the middle of Red Sea and of course Nutella !! Thank you Nicolas. Very much appreciated.

Evangelos T – May 12, 2024

Thank you for this unforgettable experience! A week on a beautiful yacht in one of the most beautiful seas in the world. Gained a lot of valuable experience and freediving skills progression. There was also a lot of freediving with dolphins, fish, among the most beautiful corals. Life becomes beautiful thanks to such trips, thank you Freediving Cruises!

Julia G – October 8, 2023

Nicolas and Sasha, thank you so much! If anyone asks me who to go to the dolphins with, I will definitely recommend you!

Daria A – October 1, 2023

The cruise programme, crew, diving, lectures and training, yoga, food – everything was top notch. In addition to the fun diving amongst the corals and dolphins, we had very good line training, lectures and answers to our endless questions.
